Miami Sudbury School is a small, mixed-age K–12 school in Coconut Grove built around a radically simple idea: young people learn best when they have real ownership of their time, their choices, and their education.

There are no traditional classes, grades, homework, or standardized curriculum. Instead, students spend their days pursuing their interests, building friendships, creating, playing, talking, making things, solving problems, and participating in the real work of running their school.

Students of different ages learn and live alongside one another. They help make the rules, participate in School Meeting, take on community responsibilities, navigate conflicts, organize activities and projects, and decide how to spend their time. Adults are present as staff, mentors, resources, and members of the community rather than directing students through a predetermined curriculum.

The result is a very different kind of childhood and education—one centered on independence, confidence, responsibility, meaningful relationships, and discovering who you are.

It’s a great fit for families who are exploring alternatives to conventional school, considering a change from their current school, homeschooling and looking for a consistent community, or simply wondering whether there might be another way to approach education.

Miami Sudbury School serves students ages 5–18 and accepts new students throughout the school year when space is available.
