Visiting Week

Tuition & Scholarships

We are enrolling incredible young people ages 5-14
into our mixed-age Community of students ages 5-18 who want to
- direct their own learning
- help run their own school
​- enjoy their childhood
​
Our enrollment is open throughout the year, as space is available. 

If you think you will need an income-based scholarship, we highly suggest you apply for that as soon as possible.

The Enrollment Process

1. Familiarize yourself with our school and the unique Sudbury approach to education. Check out our FAQ, videos, and books on our site to learn more. 
   
   
2. Schedule an admissions meeting for your family (In person or Zoom). 
   
   
3. A student may then be invited to do a Visiting Week to get a good feel for what daily life is like at The Miami Sudbury School.
   
   
4. After their Visiting Week, if it looks like a good fit, we'll send enrollment paperwork and schedule an admissions review. If we have already reached maximum enrollment, your child will be placed on our Waiting List. 
   
   
5. ​Your student becomes a Voting Member at The Miami Sudbury School and is given the priceless opportunity to not simply "be taught" but rather to learn through practice the real skills needed for successful learning and living.

Please note: 
During the enrollment process, our Admissions Committee works with prospective families to determine whether there will be a good fit between our school and your family. We do not consider academic performance or IEPs in our enrollment process. We strongly believe that most students can thrive at The Miami Sudbury School, if that is their goal.  However, the unique nature of our school relies heavily on the right mix of ages and the ability of all students to function cooperatively and productively for the sake of the community. We occasionally find that we aren't able to offer admission to students, possibly due to circumstances related to emotional or behavioral patterns that might make it difficult for a student to flourish in our community. 

The main criteria our Community looks for in a prospective student are:

1. Are they kind and respectful to everyone?
   
2. Do they follow and respect our Community rules/policies? 
3. Do we think they’ll be a good addition to our Community?

The Miami Sudbury School believes that this model of empowerment will allow almost any young person to grow and thrive. While admission is never based on test scores or grades, students must meet the following criteria:

​Every student interested in becoming a community member, regardless of age, must have a baseline of personal responsibility and self-control in order to participate in a Sudbury School Community. Respect for the authority of our school's peer justice system, democratic School Meeting, and the policies decided upon by these bodies is essential for the smooth functioning of our community, allowing everyone to work together with respect and responsibility
